Microsoft Releases Cortana vs. Siri Ad
When it comes to intelligent phones, who’s the smartest?
Microsoft’s new commercial pits its Cortana virtual assistant against the robot-voiced Siri from Apple.
As the title “Happy Anniversary” suggests, the video revolves around a wedding anniversary. It shows the two phones side by side as the narrator makes a series of commands in relation to his activities for the day.
In all cases, Cortana—on Windows Phone 8.1, running on the Nokia Lumia 635—is clearly able to understand what the narrator is asking for. Without hesitation, she agrees to give him important reminders, from greeting his special other on their anniversary, to getting her roses.
She even gives him a traffic alert.
Siri, on the other hand, is unable to comply with any of the requests.
Microsoft has made fun of other companies’ products before. It even used Siri once in its spoof of the iPad.
Cortana, along with Windows Phone 8.1, was first revealed to the world in April. Microsoft has announced that one of its aims is for the virtual assistant to become a pervasive feature among their mobile platforms. This could suggest Cortana would one day be a part of iOS and Android devices.
