Apple is Fashionably Late to Evasi0n’s Jailbreak Party
Apple’s iOS update this week officially disabled the most recent jailbreak, evasi0n, which upon release in February instantly became the most sought after jailbreak in iOS history.
In just over a month, the jailbreak reached 18 million devices on iOS 6, including iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads.
The latest 6.1.3 update to iOS released Tuesday includes a patch that prevents the use of evasi0n. Those who have updated to iOS 6.1.3 no longer possess the ability to jailbreak their updated iDevice.
iOS jailbreaking, of course, refers to the process of removing the limitations on Apple devices running iOS through the use of software and hardware exploits.
Jailbreaking gives users root access to the iOS operating system, allowing the download of a variety of things – apps, extensions, themes, etc. – that aren’t officially available from Apple.
The makers of evasi0n don’t plan to work on a new jailbreak tool for iOS 6.1.3, saying that they will “probably wait until the next major release.”
